Spagnolettas from 1581

Two relatively simple dances from Caroso’s Il Ballarino, Spagnoletta and Spagnoletta Nuovo. We will take a quick look at Spagnoletta, reminiscent of a Cascarda in five parts with a repeating chorus. Then we will spend more time on Spagnoletta Nuovo, for three dancers in six parts with a repeating chorus that will give us lots of practice with braids (treccia) and the Battuti di Canario step.
