Keyboards Before 1600: Instruments and Repertoire

In this class we'll explore European keyboard instruments and their repertoire in the Middle Ages and Renaissance. We'll listen to recordings of period keyboards and look at facsimiles of keyboard intabulations. If there is time and interest, we'll discuss how to read period notation for keyboard music. In particular we'll look at the German Keyboard Tablature of the Buxheimer Organ Book and the notation in Attaignant's intabulations of chansons.
